Area senior picnic Wednesday
Area senior centers will have a picnic at noon Wednesday at Soldotna Creek Park in Soldotna. Members of senior citizens centers from Kenai, Soldotna, Sterling, Nikiski, Seward and Homer will attend. Regular lunches will not be served at most of these centers Wednesday, due to the picnic.
Trash and Treasure sale taking reservations
The Sterling Senior Center's Trash and Treasure sale will be Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tables can be reserved for $15 and parking lot space can be reserved for $10. Call 262-6808 to reserve a spot.
Sockeye salmon count classic underway
The Sterling Senior Center presents its sixth annual Kenai River Sockeye Salmon Count Classic. Guess the number of sockeye salmon that cross the Department of Fish and Game's fish counter as of noon Aug. 7. Half the money from tickets will be given out in prizes. The closest guess receives 75 percent of the pot, the second closest gets 15 percent and the third closest gets 10 percent. Tickets are $2. The deadline for entries is July 31. Prizes will be awarded Aug. 24. Call 262-6808 for more information.
Forget-Me-Not Care Center
Every day: Newspaper and discussion group from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Brain challenge games from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Exercise group from 11:30 to noon. Lunch from noon to 12:30 p.m. Floor games from 12:30 to 1 p.m. Art activities from 1 to 1:30 p.m. Short stories or film clips from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m. Depart at 2:30 p.m.
