Sterling man killed in motorcycle accident

Posted: Wednesday, June 26, 2002

KENAI (AP) -- A Sterling man was killed in a motorcycle accident near Cooper Landing, Alaska State Troopers said.

Leelynn Chumley, 33, was driving his motorcycle south on the Sterling Highway on Sunday night when he drove off the road into a ditch near Mile 43.5, according to Alaska State Troopers. The motorcycle apparently rolled several times.

Cooper Landing Emergency Services pronounced Chumley dead at the scene. Troopers from Soldotna and Seward also responded.

Trooper spokesman Greg Wilkinson said Chumley was not wearing a helmet and sustained extensive head injuries.

''We don't know why he drove off the road, just that he did,'' Wilkinson said.

Troopers are continuing to investigate.
