Drama summer camp announced

The Alaska Children's Institute for the Performing Arts, an area nonprofit organization, will hold its annual drama summer camp for children ages 8 through 14. It will be held at Nikiski High School from 10 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday July 8-27. The cost of the camp will be $99 per student, payable on the first day of the class. Kenai Peninsula poets sought

The Friendly Poets Society is offering a $1,000 grand prize in its latest poetry competition, free to everyone. There are 50 prizes in all worth almost $5,000. The contest is seeking poems on any subject, using any style, with a life-affirming inspirational theme. To enter, send one poem 21 lines or less to: Lavender Augulis, Poetry Contest, 2255 N. Poetry contest ends Sunday

The Texas Poetry Alliance is offering a $1,000 grand prize in its annual spiritual poetry contest. There is no entry fee and everyone is invited to submit a poem. Over $4,500 in cash and prizes will be awarded.

Writing conference planned

The Wrangell Mountains Center in McCarthy will present a writing workshop Aug. 11-18 with visiting writer Gretchen Legler. The workshop offers an intimate writing community in an inspirational setting and focuses on nonfiction writing and poetry. The cost is $395, which includes meals and camping.
