Man rescued from fishing boat after amputating fingers

KODIAK (AP) -- The Coast Guard medevaced a man from a Bering Sea fishing vessel after he amputated three fingers in an accident on board the ship.

Payton Piestrut was transported from the fishing vessel Intrepid to the Cold Bay medical clinic Monday evening. The boat was about 169 miles east of St. Paul Island when the accident occurred. Details of the accident were not available.

After reaching Cold Bay, Piestrut was given pain medication, put on an air ambulance and flown to Seattle for treatment.
