Troopers identify Bristol Bay deckhand who drowned last week

ANCHORAGE (AP) -- Alaska State Troopers have released the name of a deckhand who fell from the fishing vessel Blue Falcon and drowned in Bristol Bay last week.

Jeffrey Douglas Porter, 41, of Torrance, Calif., was one of two people aboard the Blue Falcon at the time of the June 21 mishap. Bristol Bay Borough police said there were no signs of foul play.

The vessel was about two miles from the mouth of the Naknek River when Porter fell at about 5:30 a.m.

Vessels in the area started searching for Porter immediately. His body was recovered about an hour later.
