Geological talk planned

The Kenai Watershed Forum presents a geological perspective of the Kenai River with geologist Robert Ruffner today at 1 p.m. at the Kenai River Flats viewing platform on Bridge Access Road. For more information, call 260-5449.

Chamber meeting to be held today

The North Peninsula Chamber of Commerce meeting is today at noon at the Lighthouse Inn. Leigh Sanger of the Nikiski Senior Center will be speaking.

Handbell ensemble to perform

Twin Cities Bronze, a handbell ensemble from Minnesota, will perform at Christ Lutheran Church in Soldotna at 7 p.m. Monday and at the Alaska SeaLife Center in Seward Tuesday. For more information, call Darryl Schaefermeyer at (907) 224-6300.

Kenai council meeting rescheduled

Football officials meeting planned

The Kenai Football Officials Association will hold its first general membership meeting July 9 at 6 p.m. at Big G Electric in Soldotna. Anyone interested in officiating high school or Pop Warner football should attend. For more information, call Randy Sparks at 262-7239.

Writing contest planned

Soldotna Public Library is sponsoring a summer writing contest for children in kindergarten to eighth grade. Entries should be received by 6 p.m. July 14. Winners will be announced July 21. For more information, stop by the library or call 262-4227.

Walk For Life to be held

The one-mile 2001 Walk For Life will be July 15. Registration is from noon to 2 p.m. at the ABC Crisis Pregnancy Center on Willow Street in Kenai. Every walker with a pledge card will receive prizes. For more information, call 283-9062.

Christmas in July planned

The Sterling Senior Center is hosting a Christmas in July on July 20 and 21 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Craft tables are available for $25. For more information, call 262-2943.

Ticket sale begins

Sockeye salmon count classic tickets are for sale until July 30. Ticket holders need to correctly guess the number of fish that will cross the Alaska Department of Fish and Game's counter as of noon Aug. 7. Winners will share in half of the proceeds. For more information, call 262-6808.

Red Cross seeking donations

The American Red Cross Southcentral Alaska Chapter needs donations of money and time for relief operations in Moose Pass and the Arctic Valley as well as for victims of tropical storm Allison.
