ANCHORAGE (AP) -- An abandoned Cook Inlet pipeline believed to have been the source of a mysterious oily sheen in the inlet last year will be flushed out over the weekend.
The operation will take place both Saturday and Sunday, according to BP.
The company will use gel and foam to clean out residual oil from the line.
Officials with the state Department of Environmental Conservation said the effort could cause another sheen on the inlet. Spill prevention and response vessels will be on hand to respond to any oil release.
