Program to feature Battle of Kenai discussion

The Alaska Heritage Day interpretive program will feature Ricky Gease, discussing the Battle of Kenai, today at 3 p.m. at the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center. For more information, call 283-1991.

Yacht club sponsoring annual two-day race

The Homer Yacht Club will hold its annual Land's End Regatta Saturday and Sunday in Kachemak Bay. The two-day race begins at 1:30 p.m. in front of Land's End Resort. Youth appreciation week in Homer continues today

The fourth annual Youth Appreciation Week in Homer continues with events today and Saturday. Boys and Girls' Club open house activities will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. today, with a street dance and barbecue at Point of View Plaza from 7 to10 p.m. Saturday there will be a barbecue and fish for fun at the Reservoir from 2 to 5 p.m. For more information, call Choices for Teens at 235-4991.

Racing lions invites fans to attend local city races

The Kenai Peninsula Racing Lions Moto-Cross Division will hold its second city race at 7 tonight at the new track at the permanent facility at Twin Cities Raceway on the Kenai Spur Highway across from Beaver Loop. Racer sign-in and practice is at 6 p.m. For more information, call Wendy Hudson at 260-3305. The public is invited.

Farmer's market opens Saturday

The Farmer's Market will be open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Marydale Avenue in Soldotna, next to the King Salmon Restaurant on the Kenai Spur Highway. For more information, call 262-5463.

Habitat ground breaking ceremony planned

Central Peninsula Habitat for Humanity will host a ground breaking ceremony for its 11th home Saturday at 1 p.m. The site is in Habitat Acres in Kenai and can be reached by taking the Kenai Spur Highway to Linwood Lane, taking a right onto Colonial Drive and another right onto Cottage Grove. Volunteers for work teams also are needed. For more information, call 283-7797.

Swim lessons set to begin

There are three sessions remaining in the summer swim lesson schedule at the Kenai pool. The next session will start Monday. Lessons run Monday through Friday for two weeks and there is a cost of $40. For more information, call the Kenai Pool at 283-7476.

Volunteers sought for WRCC fund-raiser

The Women's Resource and Crisis Center is seeking volunteers to serve as Remote Team members for the 18th annual KRSM and WRCC Radiothon Fundraiser scheduled for Sept. 9 .
