Toddler hour set

Toddler hour for children ages 5 and under is available from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays at the Kenai Recreation Center. There is no fee. Parents are required to stay with their children.

Nutrition classes continue

The Kenai Peninsula Food Bank is hosting a series of nutrition classes titled "Harvesting for your Health" on Tuesdays at the food bank. The session ends Aug. 2. Colleen Sonnevil of the Cooperative Extension Services office will instruct on how to harvest area plants and fish. Attendance at all classes is not required. Yard sale fund-raiser set

Crimestoppers will host a yard sale fund-raiser at 10 a.m. Thursday at 200 Sterling St. in Kenai. The program is seeking donations for the sale. For more information or to make a donation, call 283-9079.

Raffel fund-raiser, golf tourney set

The Kenai Firefighters Association's 15th annual golf tournament will be held July 8 at the Kenai Golf Course. Tee time is at 8 a.m.. Registration begins at 7 a.m. Prizes will be given to the top three teams, for the longest drive and closest to the pin. Barbecue and drinks will be provided. Door prizes will be given away at the barbecue. Preregister at the Kenai Fire Department on Willow Street or call 283-4557.

The association also is holding a raffle fund-raiser for a 2005 Polaris Sportsman 440 and a Winchester MDL 70 338 with a Leupold 3 by 9 scope. Only 500 tickets will be sold. Tickets cost $20 each. The drawing will be held at the Kenai Golf Course following the 15th annual Firefighters Association gold tournament.

Parade applications available

The Soldotna Chamber of Commerce has parade applications available online at for its 45th annual Progress Days parade July 23. There is no cost. Clubs, organizations, businesses and community members are encouraged to participate. For more information, call 262-9814.

Temporary shelter available

The LeeShore Center offers help to homeless women and children and victims of domestic violence and sexual assault through its Transitional Living Center. For more information, call 283-2069.

Volksmarch 10K set

The Anchorage Volkssport Club will host volksmarches (10-kilometer walks) daily through Sept. 30 at the Kenai Subway. A volksmarch is a noncompetitive walk designed to encourage walking for health.

Participants may ask for a map and instructions from the Anchorage Volkssport Club box behind the counter at Subway during the stores hours. The event and supplies are free, though stamps for International Volksmarch books and distance credits cost $3. For more information, call Marilyn Corder at 260-5874 or (907) 227-4075.
