Library to sell used books

The Soldotna Public Library will have a used book sale from 1 to 4:30 p.m. today.

Hardback books are 50 cents each and paperbacks are five for $1. Books for all ages will be on sale.

The library also accepts donations of books, magazines, paperback books and puzzles in good condition.

Hospital board to meet

The Central Peninsula General Hospital Inc. Board of Directors will meet at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the Iliamna Conference Room at the hospital in Soldotna. The public is invited. The agenda is available at www.cpgh.org.

Chay show on energy slated

People for Peace and Justice will host Dan Chay’s presentation on oil and gas depletion and the outlook for the future at 7 p.m. Friday at the Cook Inlet Aquaculture Center on Kalifornsky Beach Road. A potluck is planned for 6 p.m.

Drifters group to hold member meeting

United Cook Inlet Drift Association will hold its annual membership meeting from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Kenai Elks Lodge in Kenai. The meeting is open to members only.

Archers to shoot

The second annual Independence 3-D Archery Shoot will be Saturday and Sunday at the Arc Loop range south of Soldotna.

The shoot is a marked yardage event and all National Field Archery Association classes are recognized.

Registration is at 9 a.m. and start time is at 10 a.m. Lunch will be available for purchase. To get to the range from Soldotna, drive to Mile 99 of the Sterling Highway, turn left on Arc Loop and go to the first gated driveway on the right.

Blood bank seeks donors

The Blood Bank of Alaska is experiencing a shortage in blood supplies. All eligible donors in the area are encouraged to donate at the Kenai Peninsula Community Blood Center in the Blazy Mall in Soldotna.

To be eligible, potential donors must be between 18 and 74 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good overall health.

The center is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information or to set up an appointment, call 260-5672.

Red Cross golf tourney set

The American Red Cross will host it 15th annual Golf Classic on July 8 at Birch Ridge Golf Course in Soldotna. A “Buick Hole-in-one” event is being sponsored by Glacier Pontiac, Buick, GMC in Soldotna. For more information, call 283-4556.

Cheerleading camp planned

The Soldotna High School cheerleaders will be conducting a cheerleading camp for girls in grades kindergarten through grade 8 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 15 at Soldotna High School.

The cost is $25, which includes a T-shirt. Participants need to bring a sack lunch. Registration forms can be picked up at AK Hair Salon and The Fitness Place in Soldotna and the Boys and Girls Club in Kenai. Space is limited to the first 75 girls to register.
