Woman allegedly tried to wreck car for insurance money

Posted: Friday, June 29, 2001

KODIAK (AP) -- A Kodiak woman caught allegedly trying to destroy her own car earlier this spring has been charged with faking the loss and filing a false insurance claim.

Alaska State Troopers this week charged Jennifer Roalsen, 20, with criminal insurance acts, second-degree theft and making a false report.

Troopers started an investigation after getting a stolen car report from Roalsen on April 8. The investigation found that Roalsen and a man were seen by another motorist allegedly trying to push the car off a cliff.

Besides reporting the car as stolen, Roalsen also filed an insurance claim that paid her $5,000.

The charges were being forwarded to the district attorney's office for review.
