Fish fry, auction fund-raiser set

The Denali Ice Club will host an all-you-can-eat Alaska fish fry and Chinese auction at 6 p.m. Friday at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Soldotna. The auction will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. The public is encouraged to attend. The cost is $8 per plate. Proceeds will benefit club skaters. KWF goes buggy

The Kenai Watershed Forum will host a bug hunt at 1 p.m. Friday at Soldotna Creek Park. Participants are encouraged to bring a magnifying glass, bug books and any bugs that need identification. For more information, call 260-5449.

Fly-in set for takeoff

The EAA Kenai Peninsula Chapter 975 will host a fly-in barbecue from 11 to 3 p.m. Saturday at McGahan's Industrial Air Park.

In conjunction with the National EAA Young Eagle Program, free airplane rides will be given to preregistered children ages 8 to 18 years. Registration for rides will be from 11 to 12:30 p.m. If the demand is great, rides may be given at a later date.

The Peninsula Modelers Club will perform aerobatics and have model displays. Performances will include a jet-powered model that flies 225 mph.

At 2 p.m., a pilot proficiency contest will begin. Pilots must drop an egg onto a target.

Homer Fourth of July celebration planned

The Homer Fourth of July celebration theme is "From Sea to Shining Sea." The parade will begin at 6 p.m. Monday. Prizes will be awarded for best of show, best use of theme, individual, adult group, best bicycle, best of show animal and judge's favorite. Advanced parade entry is encouraged. There is no cost. Toyz for Totz poker run scheduled

Kenai Peninsula ABATE will hold a motorcycle poker fun run at 11 a.m. July 9 at A-1 enterprises in Soldotna. Registration is prior to the run. It is open to all riders. There will be a free T-shirt and the opportunity to win a new Victory motorcycle for the first 100 entrants. For more information, call Scott Hamann at 776-7676.

Instructional shooting clinic on target

The National Rifle Association's Women On Target program is sponsoring an instructional shooting clinic for women at 9 a.m. July 9 at the Cooper Landing Gun Club at Mile 1.5 of Bean Creel Road. The cost is $50 per person. All necessary equipment will be provided. The clinic will feature an NRA basic shotgun course. To register, call Pat Dye at (907) 595-1512.

Social Security reps to visit area

Social Security Administration representatives will be on the Kenai Peninsula from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 19 at Seward City Hall; from noon to 4 p.m. July 20 at Kenai City Hall; and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 21 at the Homer Senior Citizens Center.
