The 15th annual God and Country Rally will be held at 6 p.m. today at the Renee C. Henderson Auditorium at Kenai Central High School. The keynote speaker will be Capt. Terry Cobban, a 1983 graduate of Soldotna High School who was wounded by an IED in November 2007 while traveling with his troops. He is an Army Chaplain in rehab at Ft. Lewis, Wash.
Music will be provided by recording artist Cissy Padgett, who completed a DVD musical tribute to the families with loved ones serving in active duty. A special tribute will be shown to troops. The Soldotna High School pool offers 10 days of swim lessons. Level one lessons are for 25 minutes, level two through five for 40 minutes. Registration has begun for classes. Lesson dates are: Monday through July 11; session four, July 14 through 25; and July 28 through Aug. 8. Lesson are offered at from 10 to 10:40 a.m.; 10:45 to 11:25 a.m.; 11:30 a.m. to 12:10 p.m.; 12:15 to 12:55 p.m.; 4 to 4:40 p.m.; and 4:45 to 5:25 p.m.
Private swim lessons time and pool rentals are available. The cost is $50 for swim lessons for 10 days; $15 for private lessons; $4 lap swim or open swim; and $35 for a punch card/10 punches on the card.

An insect investigation with Dominique Collet will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the Soldotna Creek Park picnic shelter behind Don Jose's Restaurant on the Sterling Highway. Collet, author of "Insects of South Central Alaska", will introduce participants to some of the often-overlooked local invertebrates.

The Kenai Peninsula Food Bank will hold free nutritional classes from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. July 8 through Aug. 26 at the food bank at 33955 Community College Drive. Classes will be taught by Colleen Sonnievil with the University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Office. The theme is "Harvesting our Natural Resources."

The Soldotna, Kenai and Kenai River rotary clubs will sponsor the annual Unity Run at 9 a.m. July 12 at Soldotna High School. The run has utilized the Unity Trail annually the last five years for the 10-mile run or 5-kilometer race.

The Nikiski High Class of 1998 will hold its 10 year reunion Aug. 1 through 3. The reunion also is open to alumni from the classes of 1997 and 1999.
