Longtime Soldotna resident Mrs. Othella Bea (Hampton) Jackson, 68, died Friday, June 25, 2010 at her home surrounded by her family after a brave battle with cancer.
Memorial service/potluck will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 29, at the Soldotna Church of God, 105 West Redoubt in Soldotna. Pastor Alan Humphries will officiate.
A potluck gathering will follow the services at the church.
Mrs. Jackson was born June 27, 1941, to Walter Lee Hampton and Rena Bea Heathcoat in Kaufman, Texas. She graduated from Athens High School in the class of 1959. Othella moved to Soldotna in 1985 when her husband, Delma worked for ARCO. In 1988, the Jacksons bought Short Stop on K-Beach; the family still owns and operates Short Stop. She was a member of the Soldotna Church of God in Soldotna. Othella loved cooking, baking, sewing, crafts, spending time with her family, doing puzzles, and loved her two dogs, Izzy and Thomas.
"Momma was a giving person. She always gave her all in everything she did. She was "adopted" by many people over the years who also called her "Momma," her family said.
Mrs. Jackson was preceded in death by her father.
She is survived by her husband, Delma (DJ) Jackson of Soldotna; sons and daughter in-laws, Tyra and Tresha Jackson of Soldotna and Gary and Roseann Jackson of Soldotna; daughter and son in-law, Valerie and Mitch Flake of Soldotna; grandsons, Christopher and Aaron Jackson both of Soldotna; granddaughters, Eden and Cora Flake both of Soldotna; mother, Rene Hampton of Missouri; sister, Reba Hampton Redding of Missouri; mother in-law, Juanita Jackson of Texas; brother, Ronnie Hampton of Missouri; and several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Memorial donations may be made in memory of Othella to the Hospice of the Central Peninsula, P.O. Box 2584 Soldotna, Ak 99669.
