Kenai chamber meeting Wednesday

The Kenai Chamber of Commerce will meet at noon Wednesday at Paradisos. John Wensley, a teacher from Mountain View Elementary School is the featured speaker. His topic is "A Kids' Guide to Kenai." A $10.50 fee is inclusive. For more information, call Colleen at 283-7989.

Kenai Watershed to host wetlands tour

Mike Gracz, Kenai Watershed Forum ecologist will lead a tour of area wetlands at 6 p.m. Thursday. Participants will meet at Veronica's where car-pool arrangements will be made. Gracz will describe the important role wetlands have in the environment. There is no fee for this class. Dress for the weather; rubber boots are suggested. Mount Marathon race volunteers needed

The Seward Centennial Mount Marathon race is soliciting volunteers for all three races to be held Friday. Volunteers receive a complimentary race volunteer T-shirt. For more information on the various positions, call Rich at 224-5290.

Grace Brethren to sponsor concerts

The Peninsula Grace Brethren Church is sponsoring concerts of the Young Continentals at 9:30 and 11 a.m. Sunday at the church. The Young Continentals feature 30 singers, dancers and technicians between the ages of 12 and 15. The program will include music, drama, choreography and personal testimony. Skyview offering lifeguard, swim classes

The Skyview High School pool is offering a lifeguard class from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 7-10 at the pool. Cost is $125 and participants must reach the age of 15 by the last day of class.

The pool also is offering swim classes. Session three is July 14-25 and session four is July 28-Aug. 8. Cost for lessons is $40 for 10 45-minute lessons. For more information and a complete list of what the pool has to offer, call Cathy at 262-3905.

Nikiski churches to host community day

The second annual community day, sponsored by Nikiski area churches, will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 12 at the Nikiski Pool Recreation Fields. The day's activities, all free, will include live music, crafts, a petting zoo, cart rides and fellowship. For more information, call Frank at 252-6058.

Vendors, parade entries sought for Progress Days

The Soldotna Chamber of Commerce is accepting applications for vendor space and parade entries for the 43rd annual Progress Days Celebration to be held July 26. The theme is "There is No Business Like Soldotna Business."

Discount cards sold to benefit cancer fund

The Soroptimist International of the Twin Cities is selling discount cards to benefit its cancer fund, which is administered by Central Peninsula General Hospital. The funds go to help area women in need of assistance. Cards cost $10, contain discounts for many area business and are valid for one year.
