The Funny River Quilters fifth annual benefit golf tournament will be held Sunday at the Bird Homestead Golf Course. The tournament is limited to 72 players. The proceeds will be used to purchase fabric, thread, needles, batting and other sewing supplies to enable the club to make and donate approximately 150 quilts per year to those in need on the Kenai Peninsula.
The Soldotna, Kenai and Kenai River rotary clubs will sponsor the annual Unity Run at 9 a.m. July 12 at Soldotna High School. The run has utilized the Unity Trail annually the last five years for the 10-mile run or 5-kilometer race.

Friends of the Soldotna Joyce Carver Library are selling raffle tickets for a chance to win a fully equipped drift boat and trailer, plus other equipment and cash.
Tickets are $100. One thousand tickets are available and may be purchased at River and Sea Marine and Trustworthy Hardware and Fishing in Soldotna.
The drawing will be held at the community picnic during Soldotna Progress Days celebration slated for July 26 and 27. The proceeds will go toward the library expansion project.

Also shown at 2 and 4 p.m.; at 1 p.m., "Alone in the Wilderness" (55 minutes) -- The topic is the life story of Dick Proenneke, who fell in love with the Twin Lakes country in the 1970s, built a log cabin solo and lived a wilderness lifestyle for more than 20 years; and at 3 p.m., "Denali: The Living Eden" (55 minutes) -- The topic is the cycle of the seasons in the lives of moose, caribou, brown bears and wolves in the national park.

The Triumvirate Bookstore Frequent Reader Program continues. Kids can pick out one free book, a reading calendar and reading program rules at the bookstore in the Peninsula Center Mall in Soldotna. Bookstore hours are noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
Each time a reader returns their initialed calendar (weekly or monthly) to the bookstore, they can pick out another free book and get their calendar punched.
