Cooking up meth was only one piece of a Soldotna couple's alleged offenses.
Police arrested James P. Clarke and Lisa M. Hundley on drug charges in Fairbanks earlier this month.
At superior court arraignments in the Kenai Courthouse on Tuesday afternoon, Clarke, 49, and Hundley, 42, pleaded not guilty to a slew of accusations, including gun theft, sexually mistreating a 14-year-old girl and growing marijuana.
In addition, Hundley and Clarke are charged with giving meth and alcohol to a minor.
Police discovered the alleged criminal activity when they searched the Rose Circle home in Soldotna in April via search warrants.
"All statements from the (alleged) 14-year-old victim led to the search warrants, which led to the eventual arrests and charges," said Investigator Jay Sjogren, a Kenai Police officer working temporarily with the State Troopers' Alaska Bureau of Alcohol and Drug Enforcement.
Sjogren said there was "nothing striking" about the home when he first opened the door.
"It wasn't a neat home, but it was somewhat orderly," Sjogren said.
However, police would make startling discoveries.
The search revealed more than two ounces of methamphetamine stored in a small plastic container on a bathroom shelf, many glass bubble pipes and many small baggies "commonly used to package methamphetamine for sales/distribution," according to police reports of the search.
Police also found several scales and a "scoop" with traces of meth as well as three reportedly stolen guns and 10 other firearms, according to police.
The stolen guns were a Taurus Judge .410/.45 caliber, a Kimber .308 caliber and a Marlin .22 caliber, according to court files.
Investigators also found four marijuana plants growing inside a small closet.
During Tuesday's hearing, Hundley fidgeted frequently, craning her neck from side to side and bouncing in her chair. Police rolled Clarke into the courtroom in a wheelchair, and he studied court papers looking down a long white beard.
Clarke faces additional felony counts for allegedly having sex with a 14-year-old girl in February. Clarke and Hundley each face indecent exposure charges after allegedly being naked around a minor earlier this year.
The couple is being held at Wildwood Correctional Complex.
