ANCHORAGE (AP) -- A former Anchorage school bus driver and volunteer for the Boy Scouts was arrested by Anchorage police Friday and charged with 10 counts of possession of child pornography.
Noah Edward Smith Jr., 39, is being held at the Cook Inlet Pre-Trial Facility on $10,000 bail and a third-party custodian, police said.
Laidlaw Transit Co., where Smith worked from 1996 until April this year, called police May 8 after the company found in Smith's desk computer disks containing pornographic images obtained from the Internet, police detective Glen Klinkhart said.
Police contacted Smith May 17 and he acknowledged that the disks were his and that he knew the images were of juveniles, Klinkhart said.
Clarke Farrer, scout executive for the western Alaska council of the Boy Scouts of America, said Smith had worked in an administrative capacity for the Boy Scouts and had not worked with children. Smith was expelled from the Boy Scouts May 24, Farrer said.
