Soldotna Boys & Girls Club Grand Opening

Posted: Tuesday, July 01, 2003

Soldotna now offers a summer Boys & Girls Club program. The Soldotna program was limited to 75 children on opening day and was filled shortly after applications were accepted. Due to the overwhelming response the Club has hired additional staff and is now able to get everyone off the waiting list and included in the clubhouse program.

The Soldotna program is housed in Redoubt Elementary Faculty, "We have had great co-operation with the outgoing principal of Redoubt Elementary Ken Meacham "We do have a waiting list, that is good and bad. It shows there is a need in Soldotna, we were aware of that, on the other hand we don't like turn youth away for any reason, but we are full." says Keith Randall, Operations Director for the sites. "Karen Strash is the Soldotna Clubhouse Director and has a wonderful staff of educated, caring individuals to complete her team."

The grand opening was a great success with the children giving tours, singing and telling jokes. Everyone was treated to a BBQ, courtesy of Peterkin Distributors, Coca-Cola and Safeway.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Kenai Peninsula has 6 sites on the Peninsula which include Kenai, Homer, Seldovia, Seward, Nikiski and now Soldotna. For more information on the summer clubhouse program for any location you can call 283-2682.
