The Sterling Highway was closed for more than 45 minutes near Cooper Landing on Mon-day morning when a truck carrying lumber lost its load and blocked the road. No one was injured.
According to Alaska State Troopers, the driver, who was not identified, said he was traveling between 50 and 55 mph when he noticed his load shifting and causing his trailer to swerve.
He tried correcting his dual-trailer rig, but it jackknifed and he lost control, dumping the load at Mile 55 near the Russian River ferry crossing.
Troopers and the Cooper Landing Fire Department res-ponded to the scene and, with the aid of a small tractor and tow trucks, cleared the lumber and the tractor-trailer rig.
The incident occurred at about 5 a.m. according to trooper Joey Beaudoin.
