Longtime Soldotna and Anchorage resident Colleen Charlotte Gordon died Monday, June 28, 2004, at her home in Soldotna of natural causes. She was 74.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 3, at Kenai Christian Church, 104 McKinley St., off the Kenai Spur Highway in Kenai. The Rev. Robert DeVolld will officiate.

Mrs. Gordon was born July 20, 1929, in Santa Monica, Calif. Following her high school graduation, she traveled by ship to Alaska for a summer vacation where she met her husband, had two children and lived for the next 56 years. In Anchorage, she worked for the U.S. Corps of Engineers and was owner-operator of the Rendezvous Bar. In 1968, Mrs. Gordon's family moved to Soldotna, where they operated the Ace of Clubs and later the Bear Den Bar. Mrs. Gordon returned to Anchorage in the late 1970s, where she worked for and retired from Stewart Title Company. She returned to Soldotna more than 10 years ago to be near her children and grandchildren.

Mrs. Gordon was active in the Soldotna Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary Post No. 10046 for many years, holding various positions. She enjoyed being with the group of ladies at the post, lunching and visiting with them, working on fund-raising projects and volunteering.

"Colleen will be greatly missed by her family and friends, who will remember her as a lady of grace who never met a stranger, and for her fun-loving sense of humor, her zest for life, her sensitivity to others, those special gold shoes, and her tender love for her grandchildren and her dog, Rusty," her family said.

"Colleen's grandchildren fondly recall memories of her special breakfasts prepared just for them, lively conversations, playing Tetris, working crossword puzzles and reading."

Mrs. Gordon was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Harriet Fox; brothers, Jerry and Robert Fox; sisters, Janet, Linda and Patty; stepsons, Wade and Darren Gordon; and her lifelong best friend, Gene Phillips.

She is survived by sister, Nancy Roges, of Hollywood, Calif.; brothers, Tim and Jim Fox of California, Phil Fox of Illinois and Frank Fox of Minnesota; son, Irvin Lee Faass of Soldotna; daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Kevin Andree of Soldotna; honorary daughter, Karen J.
