Longtime Soldotna resident Mary Ruth Zumwalt died Sunday, June 27, 2004, at Providence Extended Care Center in Anchorage from complications of the heart and kidneys. She was 77.
According to her wishes, Mrs. Zumwalt will be cremated. A memorial service will be conducted by Pastor Vance Wonser at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 3, at Kenai Bible Church.
She was born June 13, 1927, in Henrietta, Okla. Mrs. Zumwalt moved to Eielson Air Force Base with her husband and children in 1966 from El Paso, Texas. They moved to Soldotna in 1976, where she retired from Kenai Peninsula College as the assistant librarian.
She attended Kenai Bible Church.
"She will be remembered for her compassion, generosity, fun-loving spirit, and faith in God," her family said.
Mrs. Zumwalt was preceded in death by her husband, Billie R. Zumwalt, and her only sister, Louise Read.
She is survived by her son, William D. Zumwalt and his three children, Roland, David and Erika; daughters, Thea L. Zumwalt and Merry G. Zumwalt and her son, Chase Kluge, and her husband, Corby Hawkins, all of Soldotna; and many friends and relatives.
Arrangements were made by Anchorage Funeral Home.
