A two-vehicle collision on the Kenai Spur Highway in the middle of town left both vehicles totalled and sent two girls to the hospital late Tuesday afternoon.
According to Kenai police, a brown Cadillac had attempted to turn onto the highway and struck an orange pick-up truck in the left rear axle. The pick-up was driven by Charlena Roberson. Police said that the accident sent two young girls from Roberson's truck to the hospital with minor "knocks on the head." Police said that the children were released that night.
The accident closed the highway for approximately 45 minutes, Sgt. Kelly George said.
The accident ripped the rear axle and frame off the Chevy, which had to be towed off the scene.
"I would be shocked to see that vehicle driving again," said George. The Cadillac, driven by a 16-year-old male, sustained a crushed front end.
"There's no coming back from that one," he said.
Roberson received a citation for failing to yield the right of way, but police said no criminal charges are pending. Five Kenai officers responded to the scene, and two seasonal enforcement personnel controlled traffic, which was diverted through the Kenai Mall.
