Hand bell ensemble to perform

Twin Cities Bronze, a hand bell ensemble from Minnesota, will perform at Christ Lutheran Church in Soldotna at 7 p.m. today and at the Alaska SeaLife Center in Seward Tuesday. For more information, call Darryl Schaefermeyer at (907) 224-6300.

Program offered to help teens to quit

The Tobacco Alliance of the Peninsula will hold an introductory meeting at noon Friday for the Challenge to Quit Program at Bridges Community Resources Office in Soldotna. The stop smoking program is designed for teens ages 14 to 19 who want to quit smoking. Those participants who are successful in quitting smoking for 30 consecutive days will take home $100 in cash.

Football officials meeting planned

The Kenai Football Officials Association will hold its first general membership meeting July 9 at 6 p.m. at Big G Electric in Soldotna. Anyone interested in officiating high school or Pop Warner football should attend. For more information, call Randy Sparks at 262-7239.

Elder hostel program planned

The Kachemak Bay Campus of Kenai Peninsula College's annual elder hostel program will be July 22 through 28. The program is for adults over age 55. To register, call the campus at (907) 235-7743 or the national elder hostel office at (877) 426-8056 or visit its Web page at www.elderhostel.org.

Class helps kids be safe sitter

Safe Sitter classes will be held July 12 and 13 and Aug. 6 and 7. Classes are open to kids, both boys and girls, ages 11 to 13. Each student must pass a rigorous written exam at the end of the course. Participants can register by calling 262-8172. Classes are on a first come, first served basis. The cost of the course materials is $25.

Volunteers wanted for dog show

The Kenai Kennel Club will hold its three-day American Kennel Club dog show July 13, 14 and 15 at Skyview High School in Soldotna. The show includes all breed conformation, obedience and agility competitions. Anyone who would like to help is invited to take part. Most jobs are easy and fun.

Christmas in July planned

The Sterling Senior Center is hosting a Christmas in July Bazaar on July 20 and 21 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Craft tables are available for $25. For more information, call 262-2943.

Church flea market slated

The Apostolic Assembly of Jesus Christ Church will hold a church-sponsored flea market July 28 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the lot across from Sourdough Sal's in Soldotna.

The American Red Cross Southcentral Alaska Chapter needs donations of money and time for relief operations in Moose Pass and the Arctic Valley, as well as for victims of tropical storm Allison.
