Veterans park planned for Nikiski

On June 23, a meeting was held at the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center with Manuel Norat of Anchorage. Norat, a member of the Anchorage Chapter of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, a retired barber and longtime resident of Anchorage, was presented, on the behalf of his family, with a donation of raw land with a panoramic view of the Nikiski area to the newly established peninsula chapter of The Order.

It is anticipated that use of the land will contain a memorial park that will include a depiction of the commitment by men and women to the costs of freedom and for purposes yet to be determined. Any veteran awarded a purple heart is eligible for membership in The Order and may contact the M.O.P.H. at P.O. Box 3215, Kenai, AK 99611.
