Poetry contest offers $1,000
A $1,000 grand prize is offered in a poetry contest sponsored by the Friendly Poets Society.

The deadline for entering is July 14. A winners' list will be sent to all entrants of the contests. Winning poems may be posted online.
Local group holds drama camp
The Alaska Children's Institute for the Performing Arts will hold a drama camp for kids in grades one through 12 from Monday through July 25 at Nikiski Middle-Senior High School. Participants will learn the ins and outs of theater, including acting, dancing, set-building, improvisation and making music videos. The fee is $125 per participant. Museum accepting fiber artwork
The Pratt Museum in Homer is accepting entries for a thematic fiber art exhibit which reflects Alaska's glaciers and volcanoes to accompany a "Fire and Ice: Photographs by Brad Lewis and Carmen Field" show.
The submission deadline is Monday and the show will open July 11. Large and unusually shaped work and collaborative pieces are accepted. The fiber art pieces will be displayed in several areas of the museum. For more information, call Gale Parsons at (907) 235-8635, ext. 36.
Artists in Schools solicits interest
The Artists in Schools program is accepting applications for professional performing artists to be an artist in residence for the program. The program is accepting applications from performing artists including actors, puppeteers, singers, dancers, mimes, musicians, circus artists as well as Alaska Native drummers, dancers and storytellers. Applications are due Nov. 1.
