Arts council appreciates support for Seldovia festival

Posted: Friday, July 02, 2004

On behalf of myself and the rest of the Seldovia Summer Solstice Music Festival Board and volunteers, I would like to thank the many folks in Seldovia who made this year's music festival fantastic. The Seldovia Arts Council was supported by Megastar Sponsors, The Alaska State Council on the Arts, the Seldovia Dental Clinic, Mary and Mike Webber (and the M/V Able II) and the Seldovia Rowing Club Bed and Breakfast, as well as 23 Superstar donors.

They made it possible to bring 30 great acts and workshops to Seldovia including our own national treasure, folklorist-storyteller and songwriter Rosalie Sorrels, along with award-winning fingerstyle guitarist Tim Sparks and accomplished pianist and improviser Radoslav Lorkovic.

Each and every talented performer was appreciated and enjoyed to the utmost by capacity crowds. We greatly appreciate the use of the Susan B. English School.

I would like to thank Central Charters and the M/V Discovery for providing special festival transportation to Seldovia. Special thanks to soundman Tim O'Leary Jr., who as usual was dedicated through and through and did a wonderful job, and to Tom Begich and Earl Mullens, who pitched in as well. Rose Scribner did a great job as stage manager.

Thanks to the many other volunteers who gave of their time and especially to the festival board, who took on major responsibilities for the festival organization and without whom the festival would not have happened. It was great and so much fun.
