Gypsy fair set

An open air gypsy fair will be held Saturday and Sunday at Timeless Toys at 3657 Main St. in Homer, just below Barb's Video.

The Wild Rovers gypsy troupe will entertain participants with juggling, face painting, singing, games, fortune-telling, dancing and improvisation. There will be food vendors, crafts for sale and games. For more information, call (907) 235-1359.

Sen. Stevens to be Homer's grand marshal

U.S. Sen. Ted Stevens will be the grand marshal for Homer's Independence Day parade at 6 p.m. Saturday. The parade route will run down Pioneer Avenue and end at the west campus of Kenai Peninsula College. The parade theme is "Alaska Islands and Ocean," in honor of the Alaska Islands and Ocean Visitors Center being dedicated that day.

Vadla to compete for Jr. Miss title

Soldotna resident Kaitlin Vadla will compete in the America's Jr. Miss competition on Saturday. It will be aired on PAX TV at 9 p.m. eastern standard time. Consult local listing for exact channel and time.

Kenai chamber sponsoring pie contest

The Kenai Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a rhubarb pie contest at 4 p.m. Sunday at the chamber booth during the Fourth of July festivities. Entries must be received by 3:30 p.m.

Entries must be two-crusted pies, include a written recipe with the entrant's name, address and phone number, be in a disposable pie plate and be submitted by an amateur baker.

Pies will be judged on overall appearance, crust flavor, texture and color, filling consistency and ease of recipe preparation. For more information, call 283-7989.

Childbirth class set

The Bradley method of husband-coached childbirth class and film will begin at 8 p.m. Tuesday in Soldotna. There is no cost.
