FAIRBANKS (AP) An autopsy will attempt to determine cause of death of a man found Monday night in a Fairbanks hotel room.
James David Terpening's roommates came home from work to the Alaska Hotel room they were sharing and found his body, said Fairbanks police detective Aaron Ring.
Terpening, 42, had suffered facial injuries.
''It's obviously suspicious because he had injuries, but the injuries are not from that day,'' Ring said.
Terpening traveled north from Las Vegas about three weeks ago. His roommates said they met him shortly afterward and that he had been drinking heavily those three weeks, Ring said.
Terpening went to the Fairbanks Memorial Hospital emergency room Saturday complaining of injuries he said were from an assault three to four days earlier. Terpening left the emergency room before he was examined.
His friends, however, said Terpening suffered the injuries when he fell on the corner of a coffee table and could not remember it because he was too drunk, Ring said.
''You can have an injury from a week ago and die from it this week,'' Ring said.
