Circle track racing today

Kenai Peninsula Racing Lions, circle track division will sponsor racing at 5 p.m. today at the Twin City Race Track. Time-ins begin at 4 p.m. Stock cars, sprints and quarter midgets will race. The public is invited. For more information, call Chet Soares at 283-9078 or Mike Young at 252-1328.

Sterling youth theater continues

The Sterling Summer Youth Theater meets at 1 to 5 p.m. Monday and Wednesdays at the Sterling Community Club until July 31. Book sale fund-raiser slated

The Friends of the Kenai Library will hold its annual book sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. A presale for members will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday. For more information or to volunteer, call Megan O'Neill at 283-8462.

Phone card donations sought

The Alaska District of the Postal Service is sponsoring a campaign called "Let Freedom Ring" that allows customers to purchase a $10 USPS Global International phone card and donate it to Alaska military personnel serving overseas.

Cards may be purchased and donated at the Soldotna post office. The campaign will run through Friday.

Firefighters to hold golf tourney

The Kenai Firefighters Association will hold its annual charity golf tournament at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Kenai Golf Course. Registration begins at 7 a.m. Participants can pick their own teams or have a team picked for them. The cost is $75 per person or $300 for a team.

A barbecue will be held, and door prizes will be awarded. Preregistration is available at the Kenai Fire Department any time before the event. Sponsors for the event are being sought.

All proceeds will go to the KFFA's many charities. For more information, call Terry Bookey at 283-7666.

Swim lessons offered

The Kenai High School swimming pool's summer hours are as follows: Lap swim is from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. Monday through Friday; a swim workout is from 8 to 9 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; swimming lessons are from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. daily; open swim is from 1 to 2:45 p.m. daily; and private swimming lessons or pool rentals are available from 3 to 4 p.m.

The cost for lap or open swim time is $3, or $25 for a punch card good for 10 sessions.

Group swimming lesson sessions will be offered July 12 to 23 and July 26 to Aug. 6. Daily lessons are 40 minutes. The cost is $40 per session. Private lessons are $10 per hour.

Kenai Performers to hold camp

The Kenai Performers are taking registration for a summer theater camp. Session two, for children in grades six through 12, will run from July 19 to Aug. 13.
