Russell Alan McLaren
Longtime Soldotna resident Russell Alan McLaren died Thursday, June 29, 2006, at his home after a battle with cancer. He was 48.
A celebration of his life will be at 4 p.m. Friday, July 7, at his Birchfield residence, 325 On Par Lane in Soldotna.
Mr. McLaren was born Feb. 16, 1958, in Northwood, N.D. He moved to Alaska in 1982 and lived in Anchorage and Soldotna. He worked for Custom Concrete, Nordic Drilling and Inlet Drilling.
“Russ was a big man with an even bigger heart. There was nothing that he enjoyed more than sharing the wonders of Alaska with others. Russell was a friend to all and loved by many. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, clamming, bee keeping and smoking fine cigars. He will be dearly missed,” his family said.
Mr. McLaren was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ada and Everal McLaren and Nellie and Jack Virden.
He is survived by his wife, Janet McLaren, of Soldotna; children, Michael Beck and his wife, Annette, of Soldotna, and Danette Swan of New York; granddaughter, Adison Beck of Soldotna; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Teri and David Birchfield of Soldotna and Gwynn and Danny Birchfield of Louisiana; father, Ronald McLaren of Idaho; mother, Nancy McLaren of Arizona; brother, Brad McLaren of Alaska; sister, Kim Landis of Iowa; numerous nieces and nephews; a cousin; and aunt and uncle, Barbara and Ed Hyland of Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be sent to the Russell A. McLaren benefit account at Wells Fargo Bank.
Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.
