Cab drivers keep public moving

Posted: Monday, July 05, 2010

I wrote a letter a few weeks ago about the cab drivers requesting a extra token, from the people using the red tokens, for a tip. This extra token s a $5 tip, so they are requesting from the people taking a discounted ride a $5 tip to assist them with their groceries. I don't tip $5 even when I pay cash.

The cabbies are not happy with this, that someone has said something, but I want to point out that there are good cab drivers in this town, the ones that are there to drive and will go out of their way to make sure that their riders have a good ride regardless if they are a CARTS, Token, or a regular rider.

It is because of Alaska Cab that we are able to have the public transportation. Now the owners of that cab company need to find the drivers that want to not only taxi for cash, but taxi the public for little up front pay. My understanding is that the public transportation, instead of putting cash in pockets today, the cab drivers get a check at the end of a pay period.

Thanks to those that want to work for a system like this and do not regret it or make the customers feel their regret over their choice. And they are the ones that are helping keep the public transportation system going on the peninsula.
