Doyon president's condition worsens

FAIRBANKS (AP) -- Doyon Ltd. President Rosemarie Maher's condition has worsened from serious to critical, a spokeswoman for Fairbanks Memorial Hospital said Thursday.

Maher, 53, suffered a heart attack Wednesday morning and was taken to the hospital. She was reported to be in a coma Thursday.

''We continue to pray for Rose and her family,'' said Doyon board Chairman Mike Irwin in a written statement from the corporation.

Maher has been Doyon's chief executive officer since Jan. 1, 2000.

Doyon is one of 13 Native corporations in the state. The corporation has 12.5 million acres and is the largest private landowner in North America. The corporation is a major employer in the Interior.
