Airport commission meeting canceled

The Kenai Airport Commission meeting slated for Thursday has been canceled. For more information, call 283-7535, ext. 231.

Blood donations needed

The Blood Bank of Alaska is seeking blood donations. Community members who make a donation Sunday through July 23 will be eligible to win prizes from area businesses. For more information, call 260-5672.

Yard contest to begin

The Soldotna Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the Beautiful Business and Yard of the Week contests. Each week from July 16 through Aug. 6, the beautification committee will choose a Soldotna business and residence to highlight. The winners will display a sign proclaiming them either the Beautiful Business of the Week or Yard of the Week.

In addition, winners will be announced in the Peninsula Clarion and at the weekly Soldotna chamber luncheon. Winning businesses receive gift certificates. To nominate a business or individual, call, e-mail or fax the nominee's name, phone number and location to the chamber at 262-9814.

Nikiski drama camp slated

The Alaska Children's Institute for the Performing Arts will hold a children's theater camp July 19 through 31 at the Nikiski Middle-Senior High School Auditorium. Children in grades four through 12 are eligible to attend. Students will learn basic set construction, acting skills, improvisation and elements of musical theater. The camp will concluded with a performance Aug. 1. The cost is $99 and is payable the first day of camp. For more information or to register, call Joe or Paulene Rizzo at 283-6109.

Langdon basketball camp set for Seward

The third annual Trajan Langdon Lace 'Em Up Basketball Camp will be held July 19 through 23 in Seward. Children in grades four through 12 are eligible to attend. The cost is $300 for overnight campers or $250 for commuter campers. Three meals per day will be provided. Twenty college athletes and coaches will help instruct. Hiking, sightseeing, swimming and competitive basketball will take place during camp. Space is limited. For more information, call (907) 258-2228.

Progress parade applications available

The Soldotna Chamber of Commerce is accepting applications for parade entries and vendors for its Soldotna Progress Days Parade on July 24. This year's theme is "River of Dreams." Interested community members, businesses, organizations and clubs are encouraged to participate. There is no fee to enter. Progress Days celebration will be held at West Park Avenue, near the Soldotna Senior Citizens Center. Vendor space is still available. Vendor contracts and parade entries are available at the Soldotna Chamber of Commerce or by calling 262-9814.

Outdoor education center still closed

The Kenai National Wildlife Refuge's Outdoor Education Center near the Swan Lake and Swanson River Canoe Trail Systems will be closed through Aug. 25. The center will be used to house crews upgrading trails in the area. The Swan Lake and Swanson River Canoe Trail Systems will remain open. For more information, call 262-7021.
