ANCHORAGE (AP) -- An 18-year-old Anchorage man died after a hit-and-run crash early Saturday, according to police.
Aanooalii Filoialii, 18, was riding in a car that was hit by a speeding pickup. He died at the scene of the crash.
The former East High football star, a recent graduate, was in a 2001 Dodge Neon that was hit by a 1977 Ford pickup at an intersection after the truck ran a red light, police said.
The driver of the Neon, 17-year-old Karen Saena, was trapped in the car for a time. She had serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital, police said.
A witness told police he saw the truck speeding down DeBarr Road, a major Anchorage street, just before it slammed into the small car. After the crash, he said, two men from the pickup took off running.
Police said there was a strong odor of alcohol in the cab of the demolished truck.
The collision occurred about 12:45 a.m.
