North Star gets fire grant

FAIRBANKS (AP) The North Star Volunteer Fire Department in North Pole has received a grant of more than $100,000 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The money will go toward fire operations and firefighter safety.

FEMA said North Star is the recipient of one of about 7,000 grants to departments throughout the nation as part of the 2003 Assistance to Firefighter Grant program.

Other Alaska departments included in the announcement were Klehini Valley Fire Department in Haines, which will receive $41,400, and Sapa Volunteer Fire Department in Copper Center, which will receive $85,000.
