Steve Shearer to be honored Friday at Kenai Softball Fields

Posted: Wednesday, July 07, 2004

On Friday, a dedication ceremony honoring Steve Shearer will take place at the Kenai Softball Fields. Steve was successful as the early founder and organizer of the men's softball league. He volunteered much of his time to the organization and the continued growth of the league. His love of baseball and unyielding commitment go without saying.

Since the city of Kenai gave its approval earlier this year, friends and family of Steve have been working diligently constructing a memorial sign, which will be placed adjacent to the softball fields.

Once again, I want to give my utmost thanks to the committee members who are working so hard to make this happen: John Yeager, Earl Hicks, Mike Navarre, John Sivley and Steve Dexheimer. We couldn't have done without the help of Dave Howard, Willie Wilson, Rich King, Danny Chambers, Jeff Braun and Penny Sivley, when we needed those extra hands. Special thanks go to Fred Braun, Jim Bookey and Mark Epperheimer for their guidance and direction.

Kay Shearer
