Death of Lukas Spruill felt throughout Alaska

Posted: Wednesday, July 07, 2004

To the Lukas Spruill family: Our sympathies and prayers go out to the Spruill family and close friends. We also will miss him greatly. The Alaska wrestling community has lost a true champion, not only as a wrestler, but as a coach and fine young man.

Luke was an amazing competitor, striving to win, but always as a gentleman regardless of the outcome. He was on his way to becoming an excellent coach, willing to spend extra time, asking questions of those he respected and sharing his knowledge. He was a true teaching coach, who wanted to help all wrestlers regardless of which team they were from.

My son, Sean, and the rest of the Kodiak wrestling team thought highly of Luke, respected him as a coach and enjoyed visiting with him between matches. I speak for the Kodiak wrestling team, and I'm sure the entire Alaska wrestling community who will miss Luke and everything he gave to his friends.

He had a positive effect on everyone who knew him and was an outstanding young man.
