The American Legion Post 20 Twins baseball team defeated a squad from Belmar, N.J., 11-10 Sunday in the championship game of the Wasilla Fourth of July Tournament.
Kenneth Butler scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh and final inning, reaching on a single.
Butler was sacrificed to second by Nick Weigle, and after Will Ridgeway drew a walk, Zack Hicks delivered a Texas leaguer that scooted past the left fielder, allowing Butler to score form second.
Butler also picked up the win after crossing the plate, throwing the final three innings in relief of Cory Grimm (3 2-3 innings) and Ely Evanson (1-3 inning).
The New Jersey Mets scored a run in the top of the second inning, but the Twins responded with eight runs in the bottom of the frame, including a grand slam from David Newby, his second of the tournament.
The Mets put together a big inning in the fourth with eight runs, and after the Twins scored two in the fifth, the Mets tied the game at 10 with a run in the sixth.
The Twins are now 18-15 overall and will play Tuesday at Coral Seymour Memorial Park in Kenai against a team from Arizona. A junior varsity game is slated for 3 p.m. with the varsity to follow.
