Cooper Landing shantytown not way to keep area pristine

For those of you who have not traveled between Soldotna and Anchorage lately, you have a treat in store for you.

At the headwaters of the beautiful Kenai River adjacent to the state boat ramp and parking area, some folks decided to build a collection of pathetic shacks that remind me of a poor relation to the famous Glitter Gulch near the entrance to Denali Park.

It seems that the very people who want Cooper Landing and the Kenai River to remain pristine have, in my opinion, created a shantytown. Want an espresso? Book a fishing trip? Want to buy a gift to show your friends that you have been in beautiful Alaska?

This is the place. The possibilities are endless. Perhaps in the future we will find a strip club or maybe an adult bookstore. I just can't wait to find out.
