Longtime Soldotna resident Eva Marie Niedens died Friday, July 7, 2000, at Central Peninsula General Hospital in Soldotna. She was 75.
Memorial services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai. Father Charles Gorman will officiate.
Mrs. Niedens was born May 13, 1925, in Pfeifer, Kan., where she was raised and educated. She graduated from Holy Cross School in Pfeifer. In 1949, she moved to Alaska, residing in Anchorage. In 1958, she moved to Soldotna, where she and her husband owned and operated the Soldotna Barber Shop at the Village Inn in Soldotna. She retired in 1984.
Mrs. Niedens enjoyed crocheting and gardening.
"Eva was loved by all who knew her," the family wrote.
She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 20 years, Leo Niedens, and by her grandson, Christopher Habeger.
Survivors include her daughters, Pam Alldridge, Sherry Scruggs and Vicki Amy; granddaughters, Brandy Wilson and Alicia Alldridge; great-granddaughter, Lexi Wilson; brothers Toni Urben and his wife Agnes and a brother Sonny Urben; sisters, Philomena Cassan, Janita Schasser and husband, Mike; and special friends Jody Asimakopoulos and Georgia Lilly.
Memorial donations may be sent to Central Peninsula General Hospital Foundation, 250 Hospital Place, Soldotna, AK 99669.

Donald C. Irvine
Unalakleet resident Donald C. Irvine died June 30, 2000, when the plane he was flying crashed near the village of Marshall. He was 40.
Mr. Irvine was born April 2, 1960, to Earl and Virginia (Letonek) Irvine in Greenville, Pa.
He grew up in Greenville and attended Wesleyan Methodist Church with his family. His elementary and junior high school years were spent in the Reynolds area schools and he graduated from Stoneboro Wesleyan School in 1978. He then attended Penn State, Sharon Campus, and received a bachelor's degree in religious education while majoring in missions from Hobe Sound Bible College in Hobe Sound, Fla. in 1984. He received a pilot license in Lufkin, Texas, and his airframe and power plant mechanics license from the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
He began his Alaska ministry in 1986 as a teacher at Far North Christian School. He co-founded Northwind Ministries, a missionary flying support organization in North Pole in 1987. He was most currently employed by the Missionary Aviation and Repair Center as a pilot and mechanic and flew passengers and supplies to remote villages in Alaska.
He loved people and made friends very easily. He worked with youths for many years.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents and maternal grandfather, his father, his mother-in-law and two infant brothers.
Mr. Irvine is survived by his wife, Kathy; sons, Brandon and Bradley; daughter, Jodie, all of Unalakleet; mother, Virginia Irvine, of Greenville; grandmother, Josephine Komar, of Cochranton, Pa.; brothers, Rev. Daniel P. Irvine, of Greenville and Rev. Bryan E. Irvine, of Hobe Sound; sisters, and brother-in-laws, Karen and Patrick Comorato, of Philadelphia, Mary and Scott Deal and Linda and Kevin Jones, all of North Pole and Debbie and Mark Smith, of Marion, Ind., and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Soldotna Bible Chapel, 300 West Marydale in Soldotna.

Robert M. Humphrey
Seward resident Robert M. Humphrey died Tuesday, July 4, 2000, at the Providence Medical Center in Seward. He was 68.
Memorial Services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday at the Moose Lodge in Kenai.
Mr. Humphrey was born March 31, 1932, in Kansas, to Kermit and Maudie Humphrey. He moved to California and worked for the Shell Oil Company for many years. In 1983 he was transferred to Alaska, later retiring in 1986.
Mr. Robert M. Humphrey is survived by his mother, Maudie Humphrey, of Sterling; son, Robert N. Humphrey of Cheektowaga, N.Y.
