WRANGELL (AP) -- Federal officials are hoping someone comes forward with details of how a bald eagle was shot last month near Wrangell.

The injured bald eagle spent the Fourth of July recuperating at the Juneau Raptor Center.

Melissa Cady, a wildlife biologist with the U.S Forest Service in Wrangell, said the eagle was picked up near Wrangell's ''sandy beach'' on June 27 after callers reported the animal was in distress.

The bird underwent surgery to repair a broken wing and is recovering.
