Final day for phone card donations
Today is the final day for community members to purchase a $10 USPS Global International phone card and donate it to Alaska military personnel serving overseas.
The phone card campaign called "Let Freedom Ring" is sponsored by the Alaska District of the U.S. Postal Service. Phone cards may be purchased and donated at the post office in Soldotna.
Book sale fund-raiser slated
The Friends of the Kenai Library annual book sale will be from at 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. For more information, call Megan O'Neill at 283-8462.
Seniors plan bazaar, classic
The Sterling Senior Center will host its Christmas in July Bazaar from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Saturday. There will be a bake sale and lots of crafts available for purchase. For more information, call 262-6808.
The center also is sponsoring its annual Kenai River Sockeye Salmon Count Classic, in which entrants guess the number of sockeye salmon that will cross the Alaska Department of Fish and Game counter as of noon Aug. 7.
Tickets are $2, and prizes will be awarded for the three closest guesses. The deadline for entry is July 30, and winners will be announced Aug. 28.
Teen support group to meet
TAG, a teenage grief support group, will meet at 9 p.m. today at Godfather's Pizza. For more information, call 262-0453.
Rotary clubs to host Unity Run
The Kenai and Soldotna Rotary clubs will host a two-race Unity Run on Saturday. Registration for both races will be at 7:30 a.m. at Soldotna High School. Bus transportation will be provided from finish lines to starting lines.
The 10-mile race will begin at 9 a.m. at Kenai Central High School and end at Soldotna High School.
The 5K run will begin at 10 a.m. at Glacier-GMC dealership and end at SoHi.
The registration fee includes a T-shirt, awards, door prizes and a post-race barbecue. For more information, call 283-8071.
