Progress Days gearing up

Applications for the Soldotna Chamber of Commerce’s annual Progress Days parade are available online at or by visiting the chamber office. The parade will take place July 22.

Vendor space also is available for the Progress Days festival, which runs July 22 and 23 in Soldotna Creek Park.

Kasilof parenting classes offered

Parents are invited to learn to connect with children and teens by using practical tools for discipline, love and relational issues from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sundays through Aug. 27 at Tustumena Elementary School in Kasilof.

Swim lessons to make a splash

The Soldotna High School pool has swim lessons from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 to 5:30 p.m. daily. Lessons will be 10, 40-minute sessions for levels two through five and 10, 25-minute lessons for level one. Session dates begin Monday and July 24. The cost for lessons is $40 per session or $10 per hour for private lessons. For more information, call 262-7419.

Library seeks for pet photos

The Soldotna Public Library is sponsoring a pet photography contest to promote its summer reading program, “Paws, Claws, Scales and Tails.” Children between 8 and 18 years old are encouraged to submit photos. Rules and entry forms are available at the library. The deadline for entries is Wednesday.

Legion holds fundraiser

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 20 is having a fish fry fundraiser for the Ashley Falgout family. Ashley died in a car wreck June 10. The event is planned for 4 p.m. Saturday at the Convention Hall of the American Legion in Old Town Kenai. The cost is $7 per plate.

Volunteers needed for run

The LeeShore Center is seeking volunteers to help with its 19th annual Kenai Peninsula Run for Women. Volunteers are needed to staff water tables, serve lunch and be flaggers. Flaggers will take a short safety course at the Kenai Police Department a few days before the run. The race will begin at 10 a.m. Aug. 12. Warm-up begins at 9:30 a.m. For more information, call 283-9479.

Soldotna grads to get together

The Soldotna High School Class of 1996 reunion will be held June 21-23. At 6 p.m. July 21, graduates and their families will meet at Hooligan’s Saloon in Soldotna; at 7:30 p.m. July 22 they will meet for dinner at Paradiso’s Restaurant in Kenai; and at 11 a.m. July 23 there will be a picnic at Kenai Municipal Park.
