* Ceremonial head of government
* Votes in a tied assembly decision
* Veto power of ordinances, resolutions, motions or other assembly actions
* May serve as head of one or more departments with assembly approval
* Can introduce ordinances
* Appoints planning commission member, subject to assembly confirmation
* Provides reports concerning special assessment districts
* Can designate a person to serve as acting mayor during absence, subject to assembly approval
