Posted: Thursday, July 08, 2010

Sterling resident Linda Hendren died quietly at home with her husband at her side on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 after a four-year battle with breast cancer. She was 57.

At her request, her body will be cremated and her ashes spread in Lake Pend Orielle at Sand Point, Idaho with family members present. No other services are planned.

Mrs. Hendren was born Sept. 4, 1952 in Sand Point, Idaho. She moved to Anchorage 36 years ago, where she lived prior to moving to Sterling 12 years ago. She retired in 2009 after a 36-year career with Safeway Stores in Anchorage and Soldotna.

"Linda will be remembered by her family and friends for her great little 'giggle.' She was always happy even while suffering with her illness," her family said.

Mrs. Hendren was preceded in death by her father, Daniel Chaney.

She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Guy Hendren of Sterling; mother, Eleanor Chaney of Sand Point, Idaho; brothers, Rick Chaney of Aberdeen, Wash. and Jack Chaney of Sand Point, Idaho; stepsons, Bret Hendren of Anchorage and Brad Hendren of Lavaca, Arkansas; nephew, Nicholas Chaney; and three grandchildren.

Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.
