FAIRBANKS (AP) -- Two men charged with collaborating on a 200-plant marijuana grow were each sentenced to a year in prison Monday in Superior Court.
Leslie Hellickson, 23 and Daniel Klauka, 21, had each been charged with one count of fourth-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance and second-degree misconduct involving weapons.
Both agreed Monday to plead no contest to the charges. Under the agreement, each man received two concurrent sentences of two years in prison with one year suspended, as well as two years probation.
According to the criminal complaint, drug officers March 23 found a hydroponic marijuana grow, a video surveillance system, and a loaded .45-caliber handgun in a raid on a home occupied by Hellickson, Klauka and a third person.
Klauka admitted to owning the marijuana and keeping the handgun for protection. Hellickson told a drug officer that he was helping out with the grow and staying at the residence when needed in return for keeping a portion of the crop for personal use.
