FAIRBANKS (AP) -- A disaster recovery center opened Tuesday in Salcha to help residents affected by this spring's flooding.
The center will help distribute grants and loans to people in about 20 homes that were damaged by flooding. More than a dozen officials are working out of the Salcha Community Center to help people process claims and offer advice.
Kerre Fisher of the state Division of Emergency Services said help includes grants from the federal Emergency Management Agency and loans from the Small Business Administration.
In addition to visiting Salcha, a second team is working among villages on the Kuskokwim and Nushagak rivers where about 100 people were affected by flooding. People needing more information can call 1-800-621-3362.
