Future Problem Solving team succeeds with community help

Posted: Thursday, July 10, 2003

After returning recently from the Future Problem Solving International Conference with two silver medals, the Soldotna High School FPS team was pretty much overjoyed. The team of Heidi Biggs, John Gomulak, Riley Kent and Jennifer McCard placed second in the senior team competition, and Kaitlin Vadla placed second in the On-Site Scenario competition. Vadla placed second last year at Internationals as well, and in 2000 three of the team competition members placed first in the Middle Division.

With such a history, we can only hope to continue to see great things from SoHi students.

The International Conference was held this year in Storrs, Conn., at the University of Connecticut. It cost around $1,200 to send each student to the Conference. We would like to exuberantly thank the many generous benefactors in the community who made our trip possible. Without you we would not have been a success!

Many thanks to: Unocal, Soldotna Lions Club, Soldotna Rotary Club, Merrill Sikorski, Soldotna City Council, Marge Wiley, Carol Histand, an anonymous donor and all those who supported our raffle and car wash.

Riley Kent
