Open burn suspended on parts of peninsula

The Alaska Division of Forestry has suspended all open burning on the Kenai Peninsula for lands north of the Anchor River and Fox River drainage. Burn permits still are required in the Homer and Kachemak Emergency services area. The burn suspension does not ban campfires or approved burn barrels. Permit holders must call to activate permits prior to burning.

The ADF cautions campers and hikers to use care in grassy or wooded areas. It also reminds parents or persons responsible for a juvenile who lights a fire that results in a wildland suppression that they may be responsible for payment of those suppression costs, as well as possible criminal penalties.
